Wildfire Hazard Mitigation: Our Work in Your Neighborhood
Central Marin Fire protects Corte Madera, Larkspur, and Greenbrae from wildfire through year-round hazard mitigation: home-by-home defensible space and home hardening evaluations, vegetation management along evacuation routes, invasive and fire-prone plant removal, and curbside green-waste chipping.
This work is funded by Corte Madera Measure F (2018), Marin Measure C (2020), and federal, state, and private grants. The results below reflect our most recently reported program year. (Figures labeled 2023-2024; current-cycle numbers are updated as each year is reported.)

Investing in Protection
Central Marin's core wildfire-mitigation allocation has more than doubled in two years, letting us reach more homes, clear more evacuation routes, and remove more hazardous vegetation each season.

Defensible Space & Home Hardening Evaluations
Every home in the Wildland Urban Interface is offered a free exterior evaluation, with clear, personalized steps to reduce ignition risk.

What We Do
Defensible Space & Home Hardening
Free exterior evaluations that show residents exactly how to protect their home, from Zone 0 (the first 5 feet) out to 100 feet.
Evacuation Route Clearance
Vegetation reduction along the roads residents depend on to get out safely, and that firefighters depend on to get in.
Voluntary Abatement & Invasive Removal
Removing broom, juniper, and other fire-prone and invasive plants from open space and high-risk parcels.
Community Chipper Program
Free curbside chipping so residents can clear vegetation without the cost and hassle of hauling it away.
Regional Partnership
Coordinated projects with the MWPA, Fire Safe Marin, and neighboring agencies that cross jurisdictional lines.
Grants & Funding
Local Measure F and Measure C dollars, matched and extended with competitive federal and state grants.
